Peterkin Electric Offers Some Tips On Laying Out Placement of New Recessed Lights in Your Home
Focal Points Lighting Placement: If you are looking at your house and rooms in particular it is a great idea to label important areas. For example, if you have a kitchen with an island in it that is a focal point of the room, it is a great idea to have this particular area set with lights.
Will the Lights Function: Although lighting is a very important aspect of the décor of a home the functionality of the lights is even more important. You want be sure that the lights are working the way that they are intended and not casting weird shadows or over lighting one area while another area is left dark. If a light is installed and it is close to a wall it can start to cast shadows that can look ominous to the room. This will then not allow the light to extend the way it was supposed to and in turn not lighting the room how you wanted to.
How Far Apart Should Recessed Lights Be?: A general rule is to divide the height of the ceiling by two. For example, if a room has an 8 foot ceiling, you should space your recessed lights about 4 feet apart. But you may want to space them closer or further apart depending on brightness of the room, type and wattage of lights, purpose of recessed lights (general, task, or accent lighting) etc.
Number of Lights Matter: There is a good balance in the amount of lights that they are used in a home. Although the recessed lights are great they are often not the only lights that are used. You want to be sure that you are aware of the other lights that you want to use and decrease the recessed lights if necessary.
