New Home Construction in Brea, CA; Call an Electrician for Additional Lighting, Electrical Outlets & More

If you are currently having a new home built for you with a builder there are lots of decisions for you to make throughout the process. The first decision in all of this which model you were going to select for your new home. Then you have to pick the lot that your house will be built on. After that you are asked to select your options and any upgrades that you want to have in your home. When you start looking at upgrades it can be overwhelming! There are so many choices that it can be hard to know what to do. Peterkin Electric wants to spend some time with you today on sifting through some of the upgrade options on your new home. We will highlight some of the upgrades that are advantageous to think about doing with your builder and which ones you are better hiring out or doing on your own later.

Best Flooring Material You Can Afford

We are going to start out with some of the upgrades that you may want to consider paying your builder to complete in your home. Let’s start by talking about flooring. Flooring is actually one of the things that you should consider having your builder do for you. They do charge more than typical installation and products but the mark-up is not extreme. If you select cheap flooring with the hope of replacing it later it is not always worth it. Ripping up your old flooring to replace it is a labor and financial intensive project. Select a flooring you like from the builder and have them put it in during the building process.

High Quality Paint

When builders paint the interior of your home they frequently use flat paint. If you have ever had flat paint before you know that it is low quality paint that shows fingerprints and marks very quickly. When you go to wipe it off some of the paint comes off with it. Upgrading to a nicer paint typically is not super costly. Higher quality paint will look nicer and wear better.

Plumbing Fixtures Home Upgrades

As you look through the upgrade options you will likely see stunning plumbing fixtures that you could select for your home. This is not an upgrade that is worth the money. The builder charges more for plumbing upgrades than it would cost you to do it later. Since plumbing is easy to upgrade later spend your money somewhere else right now and make these upgrades on your own later.

New Construction Electrical

It can be so tempting to have your builder add in extra lighting or install decorative light fixtures for you as part of your upgrade package. Peterkin Electric has found that consistently builders overcharge you for electrical upgrades by a very large margin. You are better off moving in with what comes standard in your home. Once you have moved in Peterkin Electric can come out and make any improvements or upgrades that you would like.
