There are aspects of your life that you know you need to inspect and look at throughout the year. One of them is the oil in your car, it has to be checked and replaced. You know that you need to change out your HVAC filters and check the yard for overgrown trees and plants. Another area that you really need to take some time to look at is the electrical system. Most people take for granted the electricity that is coursing through your home. You come home to a warmed up house, lights on, television blaring in the background and a place to charge your phone. It is too easy to expect that the electrical system will work so when there is a problem it is a major inconvenience. If you want to be sure that your electrical systems are running smoothly there are some things that you need to check on regularly. These are all ways to check and increase your electricity.
Peterkin Electric Lists Ways to Check Your Electrical System
Light Bulb Chart: One area of the house that can use an updating or checked on a regular basis happens to be the light bulbs. You head to the store and grab whatever bulb you always get or what is on sale. The problem is that you could be getting bulbs that are not right for the fixture or bulbs that are not efficient. If you notice you are constantly changing out bulbs then you may want to look into different options. The best bulb that you can get for your home to get a good full light and a long lasting bulb are LED. They have lights that are the size and wattage that you need for each kind of fixture so take your time to look for the right bulbs.
GFCI Outlets: If you go look around your house and take special note at the outlets you will notice that some of them have an extra button on them. The outlets that have these extra buttons are usually in areas that water could have the best potential to come in contact with the outlet or what is plugged into it. These are referred to as a GFCI or ground fault circuit interrupter. They are there to protect your system from being fried if the area gets wet. The GFCI will flip and cause the electrical current to stop to that outlet. You want to go around and reset them throughout the inside and outside of the house to ensure that they are not already out.
Carbon Monoxide & Smoke Detectors: You want to also put a timer on your phone or calendar to remind you to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors as well as carbon monoxide detectors as well. Many of them are wired into the house but have a battery backup in case of a power outage. Be sure to change them out at least once a year.
